Hiragana Hacks: Don't Write, Imagine!

Your brain remembers Images 100x better than abstract lines. Let's turn squiggles into pictures.

1. A (あ) -> Antenna

  • Image: Look at あ. See the vertical line and the loop? It looks like a distorted roof Antenna.
  • Sound: A for Antenna.

2. I (い) -> Eels

  • Image: い looks like two eels swimming side by side (Or number 11 tilted).
  • Sound: I (Pronounced 'ee' as in Eel).

3. U (う) -> U-turn / Ooh!

  • Image: う looks like a sideways U lying down. Or someone bending over with a heavy load on their back ("Ooh, heavy!").
  • Sound: U (Pronounced 'Ooh').

4. E (え) -> Exercise

  • Image: え looks like a ninja running or doing Exercise (high kick leg).
  • Sound: E (Pronounced 'Eh' as in Exercise).

5. O (お) -> On the Green (Golf)

  • Image: お is complex.
    • The loop is the swing of the club.
    • The little dash is the ball flying away.
    • "Oh! Good shot!"
  • Sound: O (Oh).

Tip: Draw these pictures over the characters yourself. You will never forget them!
