V-plain + 以上(は) / V-plain + 上は💡Usage
Used to express determination or obligation to do something because a certain situation has come about.
📚Examples
約束した以上、守らなければならない。
Yakusoku shita ijou, mamoranakereba naranai.
Since I promised, I must keep it.
試験を受ける以上、合格したい。
Shiken wo ukeru ijou, goukaku shitai.
Now that I'm taking the exam, I want to pass.
始めた以上、途中でやめるわけにはいかない。
Hajimeta ijou, tochuu de yameru wake ni wa ikanai.
Once I've started, I can't quit halfway.
日本に来た上は、日本語をマスターして帰りたい。
Nihon ni kita ue wa, Nihongo wo masutaa shite kaeritai.
Since I came to Japan, I want to master Japanese before I go back.
プロである以上、失敗は許されない。
Puro de aru ijou, shippai wa yurusarenai.
Since I am a professional, failure is not tolerated.
引き受けた上は、責任を持ってやります。
Hikiuketa ue wa, sekinin wo motte yarimasu.

Riidaa de aru ijou, minna wo mamoru gimu ga aru.

Bareta ue wa, ayamaru shika nai.
