46. ことにする : Decide to / Make it a rule to.
✏️Structure
Verb (plain form) + ことにする💡Usage
Expresses the speaker's own decision, by personal will. Different from "ことになる" (decision from outside).
📚Examples
健康のために、明日から毎日30分ジョギングすることにした。
Kenkou no tame ni, ashita kara mainichi sanjuppun jogingu suru koto ni shita.
For my health, I decided to jog for 30 minutes every day starting tomorrow.
医者に勧められて、今月から完全にタバコをやめることにした。
Isha ni susumerarete, kongetsu kara kanzen ni tabako wo yameru koto ni shita.
Recommended by my doctor, I decided to quit smoking completely starting this month.
試験勉強のため、夜は12時前に必ず早く寝ることにしている。
Shiken benkyou no tame, yoru wa juuniji mae ni kanarazu hayaku neru koto ni shite iru.
For exam preparation, I make it a rule to always sleep early before midnight.
将来の夢を叶えるために、来年から本格的に日本語を勉強することにした。
