Used to express a result or situation that is the complete opposite of what was expected or previously stated.
📚Examples
親切で言ったことが、逆に仇（あだ）となってしまった。
Shinsetsu de itta koto ga, gyaku ni ada to natte shimatta.
What I said out of kindness actually backfired and caused harm.
急ごうとすると、逆に時間がかかる。
Isogou to suru to, gyaku ni jikan ga kakaru.
When you try to hurry, it actually takes more time.
安物を買ったら、逆に高くついた。
Yasumono wo kattara, gyaku ni takaku tsuita.
Buying cheap stuff ended up costing more in the long run.
