V-ru + まい / V-ru + まいとする💡Usage
Expresses the speaker's strong determination not to do something.
📚Examples
もう二度と嘘はつくまいと心に決めた。
Mou nidoto uso wa tsuku mai to kokoro ni kimeta.
I decided in my heart never to lie again.
あんな店には二度と行くまい。
Anna mise ni wa nidoto iku mai.
I will never go to a shop like that again.
涙を見せるまいと、必死に我慢した。
Namida wo miseru mai to, hisshi ni gaman shita.
I tried desperately to hold back so as not to show my tears.
彼には絶対に負けるまいと思った。
Kare ni wa zettai ni makeru mai to omotta.
I thought I would absolutely not lose to him.
両親に心配をかけまいとして、元気に振る舞った。
Ryoushin ni shinpai wo kake mai to shite, genki niふるmatta.
I acted cheerful so as not to worry my parents.
