31. かける : Incomplete / Half-done / In the middle of.

✏️Structure
Verb stem + かける / かけの + Noun💡Usage
Expresses an action in the middle of being done, not yet completed, or about to happen but hasn't happened yet.
📚Examples
テーブルの上に、誰のものか分からない食べかけのパンが置いてある。
Teeburu no ue ni, dare no mono ka wakaranai tabekake no pan ga oite aru.
There is a half-eaten piece of bread on the table, and I don't know whose it is.
読みかけの本を机の上に置いて、急いで出かける準備を始めた。
Yomikake no hon wo tsukue no ue ni oite, isoide dekakeru junbi wo hajimeta.
I put the half-read book on the desk and started preparing to go out in a hurry.
階段を急いで下りようとして、危うく足を踏み外して転びかけた。
Kaidan wo isoide oriyou toshite, ayauku ashi wo fumihazushite korobikaketa.
I tried to go down the stairs in a hurry and almost lost my footing and fell.
あんなに酷いことを言われたのに、彼の寂しそうな顔を見て怒りを忘れかけていた。
Anna ni hidoi koto wo iwareta noni, kare no sabishisou na kao wo mite ikari wo wasurekake teita.
Even though I was told such terrible things, seeing his lonely face made me almost forget my anger.
映画の結末があまりにも切なくて、映画館の中で人目も気にせず泣きかけた。
Eiga no ketsumatsu ga amarinimo setsunakute, eigakan no naka de hitome mo kinisezu nakikaketa.
The ending of the movie was so heart-rending that I almost started crying in the theater without caring about others.
まだ一度しか使っていない使いかけの消しゴムを、どこかに失くしてしまった。
Mada ichido shika tsukatte inai tsukaikake no keshigomu wo, dokoka ni nakushite shimatta.
I've lost the half-used eraser that I had only used once somewhere.
何度も不合格が続いていたので、夢を諦めかけていたが、最後にチャンスが巡ってきた。
Nando mo fugoukaku ga tsuzuite ita node, yume wo akiramekake teita ga, saigo ni chansu ga megutte kita.
