Used when wondering or pondering about something. Expresses uncertainty or desire.

遠足を楽しみにしている子供たちが、明日は晴れるかなあと空を見上げている。
Ensoku wo tanoshimi ni shite iru kodomotachi ga, ashita wa hareru kanaa to sora wo miagete iru.
The children, who are looking forward to the school excursion, are looking up at the sky wondering if it will be sunny tomorrow.
約束の時間に遅れているけれど、彼は本当に今日ここに来るかなあ。
Yakusoku no jikan ni okurete iru keredo, kare wa hontou ni kyou koko ni kuru kanaa.
He's late for the appointment; I wonder if he's really coming here today.
こんなに難しいプロジェクトのリーダー、自分に一人でできるかなあと不安になる。
