Used to link alternatives. Can also mean "possibly" or "maybe".
📚Examples
黒あるいは青のペンを使いなさい。
Kuro aruiwa ao no pen wo tsukainasai.
Please use a black or blue pen.
ファックス、あるいはメールでお知らせください。
Fakkusu, aruiwa meeru de oshirase kudasai.
Please notify us by fax or email.
彼は病気、あるいは家庭の事情で休んでいるのかもしれない。
Kare wa byouki, aruiwa katei no jijou de yasunde iru no kamoshirenai.
He might be absent due to illness or family circumstances.
それは嘘、あるいは誤解かもしれない。
Sore wa uso, aruiwa gokai kamoshirenai.
That might be a lie, or perhaps a misunderstanding.
明日、あるいは明後日伺います。
Ashita, aruiwa asatte ukagaimasu.
I will visit tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.
電車、あるいはバスで行けます。
Densha, aruiwa basu de ikemasu.
You can go by train or bus.
進学するか、あるいは就職するか迷っている。
Shingaku suru ka, aruiwa shuushoku suru ka mayotte iru.
I am hesitating whether to continue my studies or get a job.
もしかすると、あるいは彼が犯人かもしれない。
Moshikasuruto, aruiwa kare ga hannin kamoshirenai.
It is possible that he is the culprit.

Hitsuyou na mono wa pasupooto, aruiwa untenmenkyoshou desu.
What is required is a passport or a driver's license.
