N + に先立ち / に先立って💡Usage
Used to express doing something before a major event (preparation, announcement, etc.). More formal than "mae ni".
📚Examples
映画の公開に先立ち、試写会が行われた。
Eiga no koukai ni sakidachi, shishakai ga okonawareta.
Prior to the release of the movie, a preview was held.
会議に先立って、資料が配られた。
Kaigi ni sakidatte, shiryou ga kubarareta.
Documents were distributed prior to the meeting.
出発に先立ち、点検を行う。
Shuppatsu ni sakidachi, tenken wo okonau.
Conduct an inspection prior to departure.
試験に先立って、説明があった。
Shiken ni sakidatte, setsumei ga atta.
There was an explanation prior to the exam.
