N + の上では / N + の上でも / N + の上での💡Usage
Means "from that standpoint" or "according to". Often used to contrast theory/records with reality.
📚Examples
暦の上ではもう春だが、まだ寒い。
Koyomi no ue dewa mou haru da ga, mada samui.
According to the calendar, it is already spring, but it is still cold.
書類の上では彼が社長だが、実権は副社長が握っている。
Shorui no ue dewa kare ga shachou da ga, jikken wa fukushachou ga nigitte iru.
On paper he is the president, but the vice president holds the real power.
データの上では問題ないはずだ。
Deeta no ue dewa mondai nai hazu da.
In terms of data, there should be no problem.
理論の上では可能だが、実際には難しい。
Riron no ue dewa kanou da ga, jissai ni wa muzukashii.
Theoretically it is possible, but practically it is difficult.
法律の上では平等でも、差別はまだある。
