よほど + Adj / V💡Usage
Used to emphasize a high degree of a state or action, often accompanied by a conjecture.
📚Examples
彼はよほど疲れていたのか、帰ってすぐに寝てしまった。
Kare wa yohodo tsukarete ita no ka, kaette sugu ni nete shimatta.
He must have been very tired because he went to sleep as soon as he got home.
よほど暇だったらしく、彼は一日中テレビを見ていた。
Yohodo hima datta rashiku, kare wa ichinichijuu terebi wo mite ita.
Apparently he was quite free, because he was watching TV all day.
あの店はよほど美味しいのか、いつも人が並んでいる。
Ano mise wa yohodo oishii no ka, itsumo hito ga narande iru.
That shop must be very delicious because there is always a line.
よほどのことがない限り、彼は約束を破らない。
Yohodo no koto ga nai kagiri, kare wa yakusoku wo yaburanai.
Unless something very serious happens, he won't break his promise.
彼女はよほど悲しかったらしく、ずっと泣いていた。
Kanojo wa yohodo kanashikatta rashiku, zutto naite ita.
She must have been very sad because she was crying for a long time.
あの荷物はよほど重いと見える。
Ano nimotsu wa yohodo omoi to mieru.
That luggage looks very heavy.
よほど喉が渇いていたのか、水を三杯も飲んだ。
Yohodo nodo ga kawaite ita no ka, mizu wo sanbai mo nonda.
He must have been very thirsty because he drank three glasses of water.
彼はよほど日本が好きらしく、もう5回も来ている。
Kare wa yohodo nihon ga suki rashiku, mou gokai mo kite iru.
He must like Japan very much because he has already been here five times.
よほど困ったときは、先生に相談しなさい。
Yohodo komatta toki wa, sensei ni soudan nasai.
When you are in great trouble, consult your teacher.
よほど運が良かったのか、事故に遭ったのに無傷だった。
Yohodo un ga yokatta no ka, jiko ni atta noni mukizu datta.
He must have been very lucky because he was unhurt despite the accident.
