Expresses doing something without doing the action. "Without...", "Instead of...".

彼はとても怒っていたようで、私の顔も見ずに部屋を出ていってしまった。
Kare wa totemo okotte ita you de, watashi no kao mo mizu ni heya wo dete itte shimatta.
It seemed he was very angry, and he left the room without even looking at my face.
昨日の夜はあんなに疲れていたのに、クーラーもつけずに寝てしまって風邪を引いた。
Kinou no yoru wa anna ni tsukarete ita noni, kuuraa mo tsukezu ni nete shimatte kaze wo hiita.
Even though I was so tired last night, I ended up sleeping without even turning on the air conditioner and caught a cold.
