Lesson 27: I can read Japanese newspapers

Learn about the Potential Form (Kanou-kei) of verbs. Distinguish between 'Miemasu' (can see) and 'Mimasu' (watch), and 'Kikoemasu' (can hear) and 'Kikimasu' (listen).

- Nhóm I: Chuyển hàng 'i' -> 'e' + ます - Nhóm II: Thêm られます - Nhóm III: きます -> こられます, します -> できます

💡 Usage

Expresses the ability or possibility of the subject to perform an action. In potential form sentences, the particle 'o' (object) often changes to 'ga'.

📚 Examples

わたし日本語にほんご新聞しんぶんめます。

Watashi wa Nihongo no shinbun ga yomemasu.

I can read Japanese newspapers.

ミラーさんは漢字かんじけます。

Miraa-san wa kanji ga kakemasu.

Mr. Miller can write Kanji.

あのみせふる時計とけいなおせます。

Ano mise de furui tokei ga naosemasu.

Because I have a headache.

わたしはさしみがべられません。

Watashi wa sashimi ga taberaremasen.

I cannot eat sashimi.

このかわおよげますか。

Kono kawa de oyogemasu ka.

Can you swim in this river?
