Lesson 40: I don't know when he will come

Learn about embedding interrogative sentences within declarative sentences (When, what, whether or not...).

Meaning

I don't know (when, where, who)...

✏️ Structure

Nghi vấn từ (Doko / Itsu / Nani...) + Plain Form + か + V (shirimasen / oshiete kudasai...)

💡 Usage

Used to embed a question with an interrogative word as a clause into another sentence. Note: drop 'da' for Na-adjectives and Nouns.

📚 Examples

会議かいぎがいつわるか、わかりません。

Kaigi ga itsu owaru ka, wakarimasen.

I don't know when the meeting ends.

どこでったか、わすれました。

Doko de katta ka, wasuremashita.

I forgot where I bought it.

どれがただしいか、わかりません。

Dore ga tadashii ka, wakarimasen.

I do not know which one is correct.

荷物にもつがいつくか、おしえてください。

Nimotsu ga itsu tsuku ka, oshiete kudasai.

Please tell me when the luggage will arrive.
