💡 Usage

です (desu): Placed at the end of a noun sentence to express judgment or affirmation. It conveys politeness.
じゃありません (ja arimasen): The negative form of "desu". In formal speech or writing, "dewa arimasen" is used.

Add "ka" at the end of a sentence to form a question. Answers usually begin with "Hai" (Yes) or "Iie" (No).

💡 Usage

Used to ask age. "O-ikutsu" is more polite than "Nan-sai".

Tên + ～さん Tên + ～ちゃん

💡 Usage

"san" is used after the listener's or a third person's family or given name. Never use it after your own name.

For children, "chan" is used instead of "san" for a more familiar tone. It can be used for both boys and girls.

あの方かたはミラーさんです。

Ano kata wa Miraa-san desu.

That person over there is Mr. Miller.

•

テレサちゃんは９歳さいです。

Teresa-chan wa kyuu-sai desu.

Teresa-chan is 9 years old.
