文 + ということは、 + 文💡Usage
Used to draw a conclusion or provide another explanation based on known or recently heard information.
📚Examples
「彼は今日休みです。」「ということは、ここには来ないんですね。」
Kare wa kyou yasumi desu. - Toiu koto wa, koko ni wa konai n desu ne.
"He is off today." "That means he won't be coming here, right?"
「3割引だそうです。」「ということは、700円ですね。」
San-wari biki da sou desu. - Toiu koto wa, nanahyaku-en desu ne.
"I heard it's 30% off." "In other words, it's 700 yen."
「雨がやみました。」「ということは、試合ができるね。」
Ame ga yamimashita. - Toiu koto wa, shiai ga dekiru ne.
"The rain stopped." "That means we can play the match."
「合格しました！」「ということは、大学生になれるんだね。」
Goukaku shimashita! - Toiu koto wa, daigakusei ni nareru n da ne.
"I passed!" "That means you're going to be a college student, right?"
「期限は昨日まででした。」「ということは、もう間に合わないんですね。」
Kigen wa kinou made deshita. - Toiu koto wa, mou maniawanai n desu ne.
"The deadline was yesterday." "In other words, it's too late now."
「道が混んでいます。」「ということは、遅れるかもしれないね。」
Michi ga konde imasu. - Toiu koto wa, okureru kamoshirenai ne.
"The road is crowded." "That means we might be late."
「田中さんは来られなくなりました。」「ということは、中止ですか。」
Tanaka-san wa korarenaku narimashita. - Toiu koto wa, chuushi desu ka.
"Mr. Tanaka can't make it." "Does that mean it's cancelled?"
「売り切れました。」「ということは、もう買えないんですね。」
Uriquiremashita. - Toiu koto wa, mou kaenai n desu ne.
"It's sold out." "In other words, we can't buy it anymore."
「彼はまだ寝ています。」「ということは、昨夜は遅かったのかな。」
Kare wa mada nete imasu. - Toiu koto wa, sakuya wa osokatta no kana.
"He is still sleeping." "Does that mean he was up late last night?"
「足跡があります。」「ということは、誰かいたんですね。」
Ashiato ga arimasu. - Toiu koto wa, dareka ita n desu ne.
"There are footprints." "That means someone was here."
