Used to compare two things, stating that the former is acceptable or easier than the latter.
📚Examples
10分ならまだしも、1時間は待てない。
Juppun nara madashimo, ichijikan wa matenai.
Ten minutes I could manage, but I can't wait for an hour.
小雨ならまだしも、こんな大雨では出かけられない。
Koame nara madashimo, konna ooame de wa dekakerarenai.
Light rain would be okay, but I can't go out in such heavy rain.
冗談ならまだしも、本気で言っているのなら困る。
Joudan nara madashimo, honki de itte iru no nara komaru.
If it were a joke it would be okay, but if you're serious, it's problematic.
一度ならまだしも、二度も間違えるなんて信じられない。
Ichido nara madashimo, nido mo machigaeru nante shinjirarenai.
Once would be okay, but I can't believe you made the same mistake twice.
多少の遅刻ならまだしも、欠席は許されない。
Tashou no chikoku nara madashimo, kesseki wa yurusarenai.
A slight lateness is manageable, but absence is not allowed.
