Emphasizes complete negation. "Not at all...", "Completely not...".

先生の説明を一生懸命聞いていたが、難しすぎてまったく分からなかった。
Sensei no setsumei wo isshoukenmei kiite ita ga, muzukashi sugite mattaku wakaranakatta.
I was listening earnestly to the teacher's explanation, but it was too difficult and I understood absolutely nothing.
彼女はスポーツにまったく興味がないので、一緒にサッカー観戦に誘っても無駄だ。
Kanojo wa supootsu ni mattaku kyoumi ga nai node, issho ni sakkaa kansen ni sasotte mo muda da.
