Yamada-san, you were quite late today. Did something happen?
すみません、本当に申し訳ありません。朝、バスがなかなか来なかったんです。
I'm sorry, I'm truly sorry. This morning the bus just wouldn't come.
そうですか。事故でもあったんですか。
I see. Was there an accident or something?
いいえ、事故ではなくて、道路がひどく混んでいたんです。30分以上待ちました。
No, it wasn't an accident - the road was terribly congested. I waited for over 30 minutes.
それは大変でしたね。連絡はできなかったんですか。
That must have been tough. Were you unable to contact anyone?
しようと思っていたんですが、スマートフォンの充電が切れてしまって。
I had been intending to contact you, but my smartphone battery had run out.
そうでしたか。次からは充電しておいたほうがいいですよ。
I see. From next time, it's better to charge it in advance.
