Used to describe an action performed without any specific intention or target.
📚Examples
テレビを見るともなく見ているうちに、眠ってしまった。
Terebi wo miru to mo naku mite iru uchi ni, nemutte shimatta.
While absentmindedly watching TV, I fell asleep.
ラジオから流れてくる音楽を聞くともなく聞いていた。
Rajio kara nagarete kuru ongaku wo kiku to mo naku kiite ita.
I was listening to the music from the radio without paying much attention.
窓の外を見るともなく見ていたら、珍しい鳥が飛んできた。
Mado no soto wo miru to mo naku mite itara, mezurashii tori ga tonde kita.
While absentmindedly looking out of the window, a rare bird flew in.
どこからともなく、花のいい香りが漂ってきた。
Doko kara to mo naku, hana no ii kaori ga tadayotte kita.
A sweet smell of flowers wafted in from somewhere.
誰にともなく、「疲れななあ」と独り言を言った。
Dare ni to mo naku, 「Tsukareta naa」 to hitorigoto wo itta.

Kangaeru to mo naku kore made no koto wo omoidashite ita.
I was recalling past events without really meaning to think about them.

Aruku to mo naku aruite iru uchi ni, shirannai basho ni kite shimatta.
While walking without any particular destination, I arrived at a place I didn't know.
いつからともなく、彼とは連絡を取らなくなった。
Itsu kara to mo naku, kare to wa renraku wo toranaku natta.
For some reason, I stopped keeping in touch with him before I knew it.
どちらからともなく、二人は手を繋いだ。
Dochira kara to mo naku, futari wa te wo tsunada.
Without either of them starting it, the two held hands.
隣の部屋から、話し声が聞こえるともなく聞こえてきた。
Tonari no heya kara, hanashigoe ga kikoeru to mo naku kikoete kita.
