V-ru + か + V-nai + かのうちに💡Usage
Used to indicate that something happens almost simultaneously with another action, or before the first action is fully completed.
📚Examples
チャイムが鳴るか鳴らないかのうちに、生徒たちは教室を飛び出した。
Chaimu ga naru ka naranai ka no uchi ni, seitotachi wa kyoushitsu wo tobidashita.
The students rushed out of the classroom the instant the chime rang.
布団に入るか入らないかのうちに、眠ってしまった。
Futon ni hairu ka hairanai ka no uchi ni, nemutte shimatta.
I fell asleep the moment I got into the futon.
彼が話し終わるか終わらないかのうちに、質問が飛んだ。
Kare ga hanashiowaru ka owaranai ka no uchi ni, shitsumon ga tonda.
Questions flew at him almost before he had finished speaking.
夜が明けるか明けないかのうちに、出発した。
Yo ga akeru ka akenai ka no uchi ni, shuppatsu shita.
I departed just as day was breaking.
電車が止まるか止まらないかのうちに、ドアが開いた。
Densha ga tomaru ka tomaranai ka no uchi ni, doa ga aita.
The doors opened just as the train was coming to a halt.
いただきますと言うか言わないかのうちに、食べ始めた。
Itadakimasu to iu ka iwanai ka no uchi ni, tabehajimeta.
They started eating almost before saying "Itadakimasu".
映画が終わるか終わらないかのうちに、観客は立ち上がった。
Eiga ga owaru ka owaranai ka no uchi ni, kankyaku wa tachiagatta.
The audience stood up the moment the movie ended.
雷が鳴るか鳴らないかのうちに、激しい雨が降り出した。
Kaminari ga naru ka naranai ka no uchi ni, hageshii ame ga furidashita.
Heavy rain started falling the instant the thunder rolled.
彼を見かけるか見かけないかのうちに、逃げ出した。
Kare wo mikakeru ka mikakenai ka no uchi ni, nigedashita.
I ran away the moment I caught sight of him.
ゴールするかしないかのうちに、彼は倒れ込んだ。
Gooru suru ka shinai ka no uchi ni, kare wa taorekonda.
He collapsed the instant he crossed the finish line.
