170. すると : And then... / In that case....

文 + すると + 文💡Usage
Used when the second event happens immediately after the first, or to draw a conclusion from the previous sentence.
📚Examples
窓を開けた。すると、鳥が入ってきた。
Mado wo aketa. Suru to, tori ga haitte kita.
I opened the window. And then, a bird flew in.
ボタンを押した。すると、音楽が流れ出した。
Botan wo oshita. Suru to, ongaku ga nagaredashita.
I pushed the button. And then, music began to play.
「彼は来ないよ。」「すると、中止になるのか。」
Kare wa konai yo. - Suru to, chuushi ni naru no ka.
"He's not coming." "In that case, will it be canceled?"
薬を飲んだ。すると、痛みが消えた。
Kusuri wo nonda. Suru to, itami ga kieta.
I took the medicine. And then, the pain disappeared.
カーテンを開けた。すると、外は雪だった。
Kaaten wo aketa. Suru to, soto wa yuki datta.
I opened the curtains. Thereupon, I saw it was snowing outside.
彼女は微笑んだ。すると、部屋が明るくなった気がした。
Kanojo wa hohoenda. Suru to, heya ga akaruku natta ki ga shita.
She smiled. Whereupon, I felt the room brighten up.
「まだ10時だ。」「すると、まだ間に合うね。」
Mada juu-ji da. - Suru to, mada maniau ne.
"It's only 10 o'clock." "Then we can still make it."
空を見上げた。すると、流れ星が見えた。
Sora wo miageta. Suru to, nagareboshi ga mieta.
I looked up at the sky. And then, I saw a shooting star.
電話を切った。すると、すぐにまた鳴り出した。
Denwa wo kitta. Suru to, sugu ni mata naridashita.
I hung up the phone. And then, it started ringing again immediately.
「雨はやんだ。」「すると、試合はやるんだね。」
Ame wa yanda. - Suru to, shiai wa yaru n da ne.
"The rain stopped." "Then the match will be held, right?"
