文 + というのは + 文💡Usage
Used to explain the reason for something previously stated or to provide a definition of a phrase.
📚Examples
彼が来なかった。というのは、風邪をひいたからだ。
Kare wa konakatta. Toiu no wa, kaze wo hiita kara da.
He didn't come. That's because he caught a cold.
このプロジェクトは中止だ。というのは、資金が足りないからだ。
Kono purojekuto wa chuushi da. Toiu no wa, shikin ga tarinai kara da.
This project is cancelled. The reason is a lack of funds.
「PC」というのは、「パーソナル・コンピューター」の略だ。
"PC" toiu no wa, "Paasonaru Konpyuutaa" no ryaku da.
"PC" is short for "Personal Computer."
私が怒っているというのは、君のためを思ってのことだ。
Watashi ga okotte iru toiu no wa, kimi no tame wo omotte no koto da.
The reason I'm angry is because I'm thinking of you.
急いでいます。というのは、もうすぐ電車が出るからです。
Isoide imasu. Toiu no wa, mou sugu densha ga deru kara desu.
I'm in a hurry. That's because the train will leave soon.
彼を信じている。というのは、長年の付き合いだからだ。
Kare wo shinjite iru. Toiu no wa, naganen no tsukiai kara da.
I trust him. That's because we've known each other for many years.
「一期一会」というのは、一生に一度の出会いという意味だ。
"Ichigo Ichie" toiu no wa, isshou ni ichido no deai toiu imi da.
"Ichigo Ichie" means a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.
外に出たくない。というのは、雨がひどいからだ。
Soto ni detakunai. Toiu no wa, ame ga hidoi kara da.
I don't want to go outside. That's because the rain is heavy.
この本は難しい。というのは、専門用語が多いからだ。
Kono hon wa muzushikatta. Toiu no wa, senmon yougo ga ooi kara da.
This book is difficult. That's because there are many technical terms.
成功した。というのは、みんなの協力があったからだ。
Seikou shita. Toiu no wa, minna no kyouryoku ga atta kara da.
We succeeded. That's because of everyone's cooperation.
